Late last night OnLive MJ confirmed that Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 would be making it’s way to OnLive on January 24th. Gamer’s world wide have been enjoying the Pro Evolution Soccer Series since it’s initial release in 2001 for the Playstation 2, but what different things do Konami have in store for us this time round?
First off they have made a handful of AI improvements to increase the realism felt while playing the game, these include:
AI OverLap – This is a new feature designed to improve the performance of players off the ball. In previous PES games when passing the ball forward into space, supporting players would rarely chase the ball down. Now when passing into space the players will run forward and allow you to make better use of the open space.
Dummy Run’s / Diagonal Run’s – Improvements have also been made to run’s in the game, you should now see your players drawing out defenders, in order to create you more space. Whilst this isn’t groundbreaking it further enhances the AI Overlap changes we mentioned before.
Zonal Defense – In previous PES games a lot of gamers complained that the defensive lines became misshaped to easily, causing lots of mistake’s. Konami appear to have listened to that feedback and in PES 2012 defensive lines have been straightened up more to mimic their real-world counterparts.
Zonal Marking – Another AI improvement here where Konami have attempted to improve the defensive play as a whole. Players will automatically pick up the runs of the opposing team by chasing them down and launching fierce tackles.
Other changes include:
Controls – A slight tweak to the control’s which will allow you to control your off ball players, let’s say you have a free kick, you can now easily move your players around the pitch at the same time as lining up your shot or pass.
Animation – Several tweaks have been made to the animation, these appear to mainly smooth out the animations during gameplay more than anything else, but still should increase the realism and at the very least give us a better experience.
Speed – The gameplay speed appears to have been upped compared to PES 2011, everything just feel’s a lot more fluid than the previous titles.
Training Challenge – from reviews of the game on other platform’s, there are a fair few people who struggled to get to grip with some of the new features. Luckily Konami have included a training challenge, which will help you get to grips with the more “sticky” area’s of the game.
Everything else is pretty much the same as last year’s version of the game, for those not familiar with the series these include:
Tournaments – There are a good variety of tournaments, including the officially licensed Champions League and South American Copa Libertadores. The most notable tournament is the Master League which is by far the most in-depth tournament, it let’s you take control of player transfers, training, tactics and much more.
Online Modes – These include a range of ranked, un-ranked and tournament matches. Also the online master league make’s it’s return, which let’s you compete for money to spend on new players for your squad. There is a new beta mode in PES 2012, but at this stage we do not know what will be in the OnLive multiplayer and i highly doubt this will make the cut. If it does, I will be sure to thoroughly cover it in the review.
So in a first of it’s kind preview by OnLiveFans.com we have spoken about whats new and the feature’s of PES 2012 on other platform’s, however i do need to inform people not familiar with the series, that PES is an unlicensed football game, meaning, players are not named as you would expect, kits whilst look familiar will not match the current kits of the teams and even in some cases the team name’s will not be what you expect. However it is fairly easy to work out who’s who and what team’s which once you get into it.
