Well, after hearing this news and knowing that my ps3 will soon have a 3d enabled update, I have officially lost all interest in onlive, lol. at least for the moment.

http://www.thedigitalnewsroom.com/en..._LED_HDTVs.htm

Those prices are 10 times better than I expected. You can get a 40" for 1,999!? Don't get me wrong, thats defiantly not chump change, but a standard 40" led 240hz (which is exactly what it is, just add 3d) is about that much right now anyways.

Makes me kind of mad since I just invested $800 into a 42" lcd 120hz, but if I can sell it for a decent price, I will defiantly try and get one over the summer.

I have also heard rumors that sony's 3d leds will be even cheaper.

Also, check out the remote thats included with the top of the line 900 models. It is completely touch screen and you can watch what is on the screen of the tv with it, or just watch another channel or blu ray while whatever is still playing on the tv. it even has a headphone input. I guess you kinda expect something like that when you spend $6000 on a tv.

So when I was reading OnLive's most recent blog entry, it came to mind, if they release a map pack for a certain game, will we have to pay for that? If so, will the map pack be at a lower price than on consoles? What if you rent the game, will the map pack be included?

Just some extra thoughts. What are your speculations?

The OnLive Game Service

After almost 8 years of development, thousands of partner meetings, millions of lines of code, and an uncountable number of all-nighters…
Drum roll please…

On June 17, 2010, during the E3 2010 show, the OnLive Game Service will be available for users in the 48 contiguous United States!
Everyone here at OnLive is just incredibly excited about this milestone. It’s the realization of a dream that we knew would be a huge undertaking, but also one that would change everything.
OnLive fundamentally transforms the way users experience games and interact with each other, and in time, will transform the way games are developed and marketed. By distilling specialized game hardware out of the equation, OnLive will allow games to be played as a pure media experience on virtually any device, with the same flexibility and instant-play experience that we’ve come to expect from online video and music.
For gamers, this means you never have to do anything for your gaming experience to keep getting better. And developers now can unleash unbounded creativity to deliver state-of-the-art gameplay that they know will reach virtually any gamer—instantly.

Today we also announced OnLive’s base service pricing, and a pretty cool special offer.

June US kick-off for PC/Mac streaming service; $14.95 subscription and publisher support; No details on Euro launch yet

Controversial games streaming service OnLive will launch in the US on June 17th backed by Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, THQ and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Details for the cloud-based gaming service, which was unveiled amidst much attention at GDC last year, are to be given in a Wednesday keynote this morning at the GamesBeat one-day event at the 2010 Game Developers Conference.

The serivce launches on PC and Mac, and costs $14.95 a month, the firm told our sister magazine MCV.

That price "provides access to an ever-increasing library of high-end, new release game content and a host of exclusive community feature such as Brag Clips and massive spectating," said COO Mike McGarvey

"Individual titles will be available for purchase or rental on an a la carte basis. Specific game pricing, including rentals, purchases and loyalty programs, will be announced prior to the consumer launch event at E3. We’ll also be announcing additional loyalty and discount programs for consumers in the coming months." Major publishers have already backed the service - and while specific titles, pricing and revenue share models will be made public closer to the E3 launch, McGarvey told us that a few of the launch games include Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed II and Prince Of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, as well as THQ’s Metro 2033.

At GDC, the firm is also courting independent developers to help hem understand the benefits of distributing their games through OnLive as well as traditional retail and increasingly-prominent download channels. "We’re seeing the pace of title commitments accelerate dramatically as we approach our consumer launch," said McGarvey. "We’re very pleased with the degree of publisher support received to date and have seen a rise in publisher interest in the OnLive Game Service as their focus begins shifting dramatically toward digital distribution." OnLive effectively streams game content direct to computers, without the need for a game download, and effectively cuts down the digital distribution process to its simplest essence. The service launched in a closed beta late last year. But what about the Micro Console - a small unit which plugs into a TV for those who don't just want to play on computers - which the firm touted at GDC last year. And when does the service head to Europe? The MicroConsole hasn't been forgotten, said McGarvey - but the firm is focusing on the PC and Mac version first: "For the initial rollout of the consumer service, we are focusing on delivering high-performance games to PCs and Macs and we will be making an announcement regarding our plans for the MicroConsole rollout later on in the year."

As for Europe: "We are very focused on launching the service in the US at the moment, but stay tuned on our European plans," McGarvey told MCV.
A full interview with McGarvey will appear over on MCV very soon.

Anyone remember this game from way back in 1999 on the N64? This was definitely one of my favorite games of that era, and I had completely forgotten about it until I stumbled across Goldeneye Source again. I wish that my Logitech controller actually worked so I could use it to play the ROM :/

That said, I realized just how awesome that game was, and immediately thought that it would be even more amazing if it were updated. I've heard rumors of a sequel, but that's not something I'm putting any faith into. However, the Goldeneye Source mod gave me an idea to rectify this situation. I know I'm insane to even think of starting this, but a remake of the original with the Source SDK would be friggin awesome. A game as epic as JFG was doesn't deserve to be forgotten, and it's comeback needs to come from somewhere.

The Place(s) that OnLive server(s) should be placed in the UK - A spacial prediction

So, OnLive, if it is a huge success in the USA, will probably be crossing the huge puddle to ship their great invention over here in Europe, one of the most powerful continents on Earth. Now, it's pretty obvious that Europe would be the first place OnLive would go to if they made success Stateside, but when they come to set up the servers, the UK poses quite a tricky problem in terms of positioning. This article is going to ask the question; just where will they build the server(s)?

The answer, after some non-scientific research, is to build just one server - in Leeds. Here's how I came to the decision:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Using something called Wikipedia, I researched for the most northerly point of Scotlanbd and southerly point of England. They happened to come out as Dunnet Head for the North, and Land's End for the South. Put the two locations in to Google Maps' directions tool, and the distance I got for how big (lengthways) Britain was turned out to be 838 miles - and that was for a car journey, not a straight top to bottom measurement. An OnLive server is said to give someone good connection from 1000 miles away, so this means that if we place a server in the middle of the country (providing that England, Scotland and Wales are one), then everyone should get a good connection with just a single server. Back of the net!

2. Now all we had to do is find a good place to put the server. By a good place, I mean a place that's quite large, which is somewhere in the middle of those 838 miles. It was hard to think of at first, but then a brainwave popped in to my head - Leeds. Big place? Check. Middle of the country? Check. Win? Check!
