Maturity for OnLive
Under development for the past 7 years, the online service of video games (http://onlivefans.com/#) OnLive should be available by the end of the year. Created by Steve Perlman, who formerly worked for Apple, OnLive is about to revolutionize the way we use video games.
All games directly from OnLive servers
The innovative side of OnLive lies in the way the games are run. Up to know we’ve gotten used to buying video games (http://onlivefans.com/#) on CDs or DVDs, this could soon change. After paying a monthly subscription fee (the amount of which is still to be determined), OnLive will give you access to a catalogue of games that available in stores. Once you have made your choice, there’s no need to download the game: it is launched instantaneously and offers high-quality graphics, regardless of the technical specs of your machine.
OnLive is multi-platforms
Because games are executed from a distance, OnLive helps you get rid of any limitations of your computer in terms of power or configuration. Now the quality of the game will only depend on your bandwidth. The company says the service will be available in standard def from 1.2 megabits p. second. From 4 mbps, you can obtain a resolution up to 1280x720 at 60 images p. second. Besides, games portability will not be necessary anymore as OnLive is executed from a plugin for web browsers on Mac and PC (http://onlivefans.com/#). All the games on offer will therefore be available on a Mac as well as on a PC. Finally, some more good news: the release of a "micro-console", that the company head announces as being "the last one you’ll buy ". Indeed, if the console specs have no more influence on the game performances, we’ll be freed from the race for power.
The best editors associated with OnLive
With partners such as Atari, Codemasters, Eidos, EA, Epic, Take Two, THQ, Ubi Soft or Warner Bros, OnLive’s catalogue will surely comprise the best games on the market. Besides, the company was careful to develop the "community" aspect of its service, by giving each player the possibility to show his/her performances to other users. So after a feat, a player can make the last minutes of the game played available to the community, in a simple click. It’ll also be possible to display a demo of a game before starting it, to unveil helpful hints for the hardest parts, and to organize competitions of Pro Gaming.
As OnLive arrives in the universe of video games, the race for power that we currently live could be brought to an end. However, it is worth noting that OnLive should only be compatible with Macs with an Intel processor.
