View Full Version : The onLive colour scheme

I know, I know. It doesn't matter what the colour scheme or design looks like, it's how it plays that matters. But I can't help openly proclaiming my objection to the orange and black colour scheme. For one it reminds me of the phone company Orange (http://orange.co.uk/) which, believe me, is not a good thing in any way, shape or form. Secondly it just looks old and dull, it doesn't scream 'cool', 'stylish', 'new', 'revolutionary' or any other semantics of the sort; it seriously doesn't suprise me it started development 7 years ago, because it looks like a 7 year old design.

I hate to say it but they should look at apple and copy them. I know everyone is doing it now but if i'm being honest apple have stylish products. An example would be the U2 iPod (http://scotfl.ca/images/Content/1__u2_ipod_glamour.jpg), in my opinion black+red+white=shit hot
Perhaps something along these lines:

(done very quickly)

What does everyone else think?

I do Like the red a lot better, but I guess it doesn't matter all that much if you mix some yellow in and turn in orange ;)

Personally I kinda like the orange/black thing. The only issue is that if you start designing stuff looking like apples advertising in terms of general designs, you can run into some issues and trademark stuff.

The orange color and name looks suspiciously like xbox live, so i think it's a good idea to change the color, the red and the black looks way better in my opinion, although it looks nothing like any of Apple's products.

Maybe not even red, just a really vibrant colour to offset the black. Also I only mentioned Apple as an example of stylish new technology, I'm not saying that they should give the OnLive dongle a click wheel or anything :P

They'll probably have different colored controllers available anyways..plus you could just use an xbox controller

The d-pad looks too much like the xbox d-pad, probably violates a Microsoft design patent on the xbox 360 controller...

Also it is baffling that they chose that shade of orange. Maybe it is my monitor, maybe it is my eye, but it sure looks like they picked the same color as the word "Live" to me from this web page...

Somebody talk me down???

I agree with the controller, but to be honest most third party 360 controllers look exactly like the official one, so maybe there aren't any patents being violated creating a similar model.

Oh you mean 'color' not 'colour';) I like the orange personally, it gives it that dark and mysterious look. Red just seems too... how do I put this... hot. I feel like I might get burnt by using it. Also red is too much like "Hey look at me." OnLive needs to attract people not by color, because then they might think it is analogous to an annoying person, but by sheer awesomeness.

My Apologies, but as an English person, speaking english (the language that came as a result of anglo saxon's settling in england) it is 'colour', you must be refering to that 'English(American)' which Microsoft Word keeps telling me about.

Fair enough point about red looking too imposing, but to be honest when I see a slick red ferrari, or watch Manchester United play, I don't tend to come out in a rash :p

Ooo... Could you edit it slightly and make another version? Only slightly. Make the silver panels in the middle of the controller more white, change the faded logo from orange to red and would you be able to see what thje shoudler buttons look like being white? =D

Thanks Jimex =D And also, i agree ;) It is colour since English is the original language and American is a derivative of English (thats why its called English(American)). However both ARE correct depending on your country. Some canadians say you they spell it "Coulor" and "color" which is totally wierd? :S

No probs. I have to admit though that after making a forum banner and visiting this forum regually, the orange is starting to grow on me *shock*. Was thinking the other day that OnLive should partner up with frosties and have Tony The Tiger as a mascot :p

True, the orange isn't all that bad but it could be more stylish. So many better colours could have been used, orange was one of the worst i think =P
And wow, I'm backing that Tony The Tiger Idea ;)
