This technically isn't under NDA, so I'll share with you guys:

Yeah, I censored quite a few things out; you never can be too careful, even if this email isn't under NDA. The game itself will be, though, if they put me in the beta. Just popping this up here for speculation.

P.S. If you're wondering how I got this offer, check out Microsoft Connect (http://connect.microsoft.com/). I've been invited to test a few other things, too, but nothing that has an NDA on it. I submitted the app for their Game Studios beta about two years ago; this is the first offer I've received concerning a game.

I don't know. If I get in, though, I can't tell you, because of the NDA.

Yeah, I found it kind of odd that it requires a broadband connection and a Facebook account. Perhaps they're doing some sort of stats publishing or networking through Facebook.

I think that Microsoft wants a piece of the social gaming pie. So far, there are only two major social gaming giants out there: Zynga and PlayDom.

Well not really that... they've been doing stuff for Facebook for a while now... especially since they own a small part of Facebook.

They also brought Microsoft Office WebApps to Facebook.

They -- basically -- just want to promote Facebook to reap benefits later. MGS is just another toe in.
