I have some srs problems with this so called touted online delivery service.
#1, remember the Phantom Gaming System? yeah. Same sort of hype marketing scheme that gave zero technical details in order to run a pump + dump securities fraud.
#2, 720p streaming = 2GB/hr in bandwidth. You will cap out your monthly connection in 20-27hrs with most N. American ISPs.
#3, LAG. There's just no way this can work without a minimum 10mbp/s connection, and even then too expensive. Maybe this would work in Japan where a 100mbit connection is only $20 a month w/no cap, but I'm skeptical of their GPU servers being able to handle a full load of CRYSIS gamers. The CEO also claimed he 'went into hundreds of homes to test for lag and solved the problem' in the press conference without of course giving details.
#4, Only 1 player per internet connection can play lest you go over your cap in just 10hrs, or lag out as compared to console games where multiple players can play online at the same time.
#5, uptime. what happens if the server goes down? you can't even play your games offline. surely it will be easy to inject packets back to the server to lag out the game to your benefit or launch a DDoS attack on them.
#6, Everything the CEO of OnLive has touched has ended up being sold to MicroSoft. I am skeptical this is either an April Fools Day joke, or some sort of M$ viral marketing where they'll end up buying the totally unknown compression technology and burying it.
#7, Onlive ROOTKITS to run the browser software = dangerous.
that is all :)
