The typical useless research outlets are saying that cloud phones are 5 years off.

One the one hand is broadcast/cable/telecom/new media/ad industry/entertainment industry claiming it needs to be able to slow things down as it verticalizes the internet to rip people off and that this is necessary for them to stay in business

on the other

Public, IT industry, Obama, Administration; Academia and established internet culture and the current course of innovation.

Its all over with an iPhone 4 on a true LTE network running HTML5. The convergence of Cloud/LTE/HTML5 and services like Onlive mean those other companies and interests can do whatever is required including going out of business. No concessions should be made to those obsolete firms save for much better unemployment benefits. Those firms and industries had a decade to figure out that trying to block access or get in the way of access to information was backwards and wasn’t going to profitable.

Again:

IBM; Microsoft; Apple; Google; Intel; Oracle; HP; Dell; Cisco; AMD; Nvidia; Micron; SGI... Every big university; Obama Admin; FCC; culture; value; justice; technological momentum and expectation. Small telcos like Metro PCS will probably be on this side. Most importantly the rest of the globe especially as they face a second wave of theft called “austerity,” where all of it came from information asymmetry to begin with.

vs

Comcast; AT&T; Verizon; T-Mobile; Time Warner; Cox; Adelphia; ABC; NBC; CBS; Fox; Clear Channel; Newspapers; Ad agencies; Disney; Sony; RIAA; MPAA; Columbia; Virgin; Universal; BMG; AM Talk radio; regressive Republican Party including certain regressives on the Supreme Court.

The typical 100x revenue reduction for foot dragging side needs to happen to make way for what’s next, at the same time without huge amounts of information asymmetry the Republican party won’t survive.
