I've seen a video that someone with his macbook was playing GTA4 with OTOY for testing purposes. The mechanism was pretty almost same as Onlive's. Connecting to their server with website plugin and boom!
However, I'm not sure about datacenter availabilities and other issues. Still, OTOY seems another competitior even though I've never seen any public demonstrations.
oohhhhhh.

I have a feeling otoy will be delayed and pushed back for a while - like onlive.
First Q2(I think that was first), now they are saying summer with signups going on for an early trial.
Its basically summer now soo....
Competition is always great and I would love to see them launch so I can try it, but I hate delays and waiting
Edit - btw otoy has been around for a while
Gaikai and Otoy have been here for a while. They have been competitors of Onlive all this time.

I have heard of Otoy before but never looked into it. I definitely like the idea of rendering on some server somewhere instead of my dinky little farm (2 old desktops and 2 old laptops).

Seems to me that otoy will run more than just video games though, like stream movies and what not.
I don't know. I'd be interested in trying it out. Nothing wrong with a little competition. However I think onlive might still be better.
We'll never know until otoy comes out.

i just saw an interview with Steve Perlman that someone posted here where he implied that OnLive might be used for more than just games, saying "If it works for games, why not other things?". I also remember seeing a Photoshop logo mixed in with the game logos in one of the demos last year.

Funny, I thought Tim Hawkins was the guy that founded Electronic Arts, and 3D0. But no, he shared the same name as Trip Hawkins.
The problem with the site is that its run on flash or similar technology, so that reduces SEO. They will have to have a better brand and better marketing than OnLive does right now.
Gaikai's big advantage is the products and services it provides, and then its founded by former Shiny founder - Dave freakin' Perry.

rofl. I just hope that onlive does well and that it ends up being the best out of all the systems. This time because they came out first they have the longest time to work out the kinks and get things right and that could be a huge advantage.
Gaikai has no advantage, its an adware platform.
Otoy is a front for AMD and now apparently Intel to offer generic Onlive type solutions to the industry at large.
Their concept and their PR is right they are very good with the concepts and clearly understand that killer application
is in huge games and game engines that couldn't even remotely run on local systems. Graphics have long ceased to be a matter of frame rate and resolution (unless one is working with an obsolete and underpowered console like PS3,) and we now have a platform to move in to the deeper aspects of presentation.
