Was this the plan all along that AT&T would be able to jack up prices once sufficient people were on board. The problem with that then is it underlines insufficient competition for AT&T and in the market generally. It should be scared to try to raise the prices and it should need some sort of permission.

Metered pricing is a huge step backwards. If Verizon follows suit that looks like collusion. I'd love to see AT&T's changes reversed by the FTC of some such entity. It would be great to communicate to the public and these firms that price increases get public approval first or don't happen even if the firm is going bankrupt. We keep hearing that it good for the profit of these firms as if that were a plus. At best its irrelevant or its like claiming its good for theft. Each of these firms charges over and over again for the same basic data. This is trying to take us back to the long distance scams of the past and its a blatant attempt to slow down the social change that the internet is bringing on. At the very least these claims of shortages need to be investigated and if they are fake there needs to be prosecution with the public in the loop.

Throttling is closely connected to metering and both or horrible. Comcast didn't actually prevail on its throttling attempts because it still isn't engaging in them and in truth isn't allowed to, companies have still been having to settle out of court since then over similar attempt because throttling also involves making congestion worse and when connected to metering charging people more for bits as they cycle around needlessly.
