View Full Version : Onlive Beta Testing - Sign up
If you are interested in signing up to the OnLive Beta Testing which will begin this summer, you can sign up at: http://www.onlive.com/beta_program.html
I'm not sure how many beta testers they will use (perhaps all that sign up).

I guarantee nobody will be beta testing this. I predict a very controlled environment, a blog set up by marketers to pretend it's being beta tested, then the actual release/launch date being pushed back farther than Duke Nukem Forever to wait for enough investors.

I disagree. I believe that they will have a ton of Beta testers. The more they have the better they can see how the system can handle a large load on their servers. I signed up. I'll see if I get to be a Beta tester :)

I also disagree, why would they fake a Public Beta, to test a system that CAN have the potential to be huge?
Is completely illogical, they will need to test it publicly to make sure the servers will support the people
As for the beta, it's apparently only open to the U.S, but I signed up anyways...
You need to be at least 18, based in the US and have a broadband-connected PC running Windows Vista®/XP®, or an Intel®-based Mac

I second that. I can hardly wait. They say Summer of 2009 is when beta testing begins. Thats only a few months away.

they really have seemed to work very hard on this service. I really had no idea about it until a few days ago.

The first thing I did when I saw (via IGN) that OnLive was having a beta this summer was google "onlive beta". Good stuff.

I think they will have a certain amount of testers for each related area.
Mac, Pc, and tv.
To a select few they will send the Micro Console and then the rest on their pcs.
Also if you look at the sign-up page they have tons of options for connection, etc.
They will take a certain amount of people from each section and give them the beta.
Those are my thoughts.

From my understanding, you still need a PC even if you have the micro console? Or am I wrong here?

I believe so, the MicroConsole is if you want to bring it to your tv.. which is what I would want.
I velieve it uses some of your computers power to run the graphics engine.

I am real curious as to how the beta testing will actually work.
like will it be out all summer and will we have unlimited access for it? or will it only available at certain times. It is a beta, so they shouldn't actually make us pay for any of the games, but what is going to be available since we will be playing them for free? maybe we will get lucky and they will decide to just go ahead and make sure it worked with all the games.

Well, I am guessing as they bring their data centers online... They invite people to the beta incrementally.
The last time I wanted to be in a beta and actually received an invite was the launch of EverCrack, and received my invite like a week before launch, and the service was down most of that week...
I would say... and this is pure speculation... Don't expect anything before e3, because I suspect they will have a huge presser at e3. GDC seems like they were inviting other companies to get on now, and perhaps get a few exclusives, and get developers to start thinking about how to take advantage of the service.
From the level of secrecy they have maintained, I suspect there are NDA's all around.
But if they are really gonna launch this fall and winter, expect weekly announcements of some new this or that. But the really big announce will be at e3.

I wish I could but I'm Canadian. Their website says that when they release the service it will only be the continental US too, so maybe they won't even release it here. Maybe early next year they will have some sites set up in Canada and release the service but since I'm in Newfoundland I'll probably still be excluded.

No, The Microconsole is completely standalone. Why would you need it to connect your PC to TV when you can do that anyway, its called HDMI, DVI, or analog. Yep, the microconsole is a console, just smaller.

I signed up for the beta the night OnLive was announced at GDC. Does anyone think I have a good chance at getting in? I kind of doubt it: something like this is going to have so many beta requests.

My default for pretty much anything is skepticism, but not negativity. I signed up a good month ago and have a nice, Fios connection at home, so I'm hoping I get into the beta this summer - I'll test the hell out of it, that's for sure.
Has there been any word as to what - if anything - is being considered for approving beta requests?

It could actually happen in like a week.... the first day of summer is the 21st I believe and it's the 18th meaning it could start in 3 days but they'll probably wait a little bit....

Yeah..some people think a Beta is just a demo, no wonder so many things are half broken...games for example.

No, no beta has started, unless you count the beta only open to employees and partners. (Or something like that).
