Just got a new setup, but let me show you what I had for the past 3 years first (all pics where with my cell phone, so sorry about quality. also keep in mind this is in my bedroom )...
I had a 26" vizio lcd hdtv that has a max resolution of 720p, 8ms response time, 60hz refresh rate, and a 700:1 contrast ratio (not dynamic). I bought it back at the beggining of 2007 for $450 which was a good price then.
For audio, I was using the logitech x540 5.1 speakers, even though they wern't really 5.1 since the audio input was through a single 3.5mm connection. The speakers also just wern't high quality at all, sounded alright at best. for the last year of use, they just started to crackle a whole lot. thats what I get for spending $90 on a supposed surround sound system (not to mention, its main use was for computers.)
anyway, here is the setup i have been using for the past few years..

So taxes came in and decided to get a new setup.
I got a sceptre 42" 1080p hdtv. It has 120hz refresh rate which makes video look so real its almost creepy. 4ms response time and a 4000:1 contrast ration, 16000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. I picked this sucker up on newegg with free shipping for $750. If you know anything about tv specs, then you know this is a freaking steal.
I also picked up a samsung theather 5.1 surround sound system. It is 1000w. These defiinatly are not computer speakers like the logitech ones I had. I have one of the fiber optic digital audio cables running from my ps3 to the head unit of the surround sound and it is just crystal clear sound. (forgot to take pics of the rear speakers.)
I can not express how badass this new setup is. I picked up inglorious basterds on blu ray and sat down and watched it last night and really got the true theater experience. actually better with that 120hz refresh rate. very errie, almost looks like you are looking through a window at some points.

This setup cost me less than $1000 and preforms just as well if not better than other theater setups that I have seen that have been $2000-$3000
