I don't have a computer capable of running most games. I know that ea signed a contract, will that mean The Sims 3 will be on?

No one really knows yet. My guess is that EA will release all their games on OnLive.com. I don't see any reason not too. Just another way for them to sell games.

agreed... as more large publishers sign on, I can't see why they wouldn't want to release their catalog of games onto OnLive. It would just make marketing sense.

The thing that makes me the happiest is that EA can't fuck you over with SecuROM and shit like that as long as it's using OnLive. They also don't have to worry about piracy.

Yeah, very true. Tons of people pirate video games, it is turning out to be another music and movie fiasco.
I'm sure people will still find a way though, especially since it's playable through the computer.

Will we be able to use mods with any of these games? Also, what game are you going to purchase from that group? I think I might purchase... ack.. I don't know none of them look like things I'd buy. I might buy Prince of Persia.

Just thinking ahead, regarding how their system appears to be set up, it seems unlikely that you would be able to make use of many mods for the games

Out of this list... nothing, really. :)

All of them I could get on the X360. However, once they start putting MMO's and what not onto the OnLive, count me in.

Just think of the potential implications of a game that is developed specifically for OnLive... it could be insane. A game where the hardware limitations are virtually endless and people can instantly connect. This seems like an excellent market to come up with a new/interesting MMO property
(Maybe a place where EA can release its new Old Republic Star Wars MMO perhaps?)

yea piracy will still be there, it just won't be cracking a game anymore, it will be getting a hacked account to work and just run through the server and play all the games. I understand this will be probably much less common, but I can guarantee you something like that will happen

Yes, but then OnLive scans the servers for hacked accounts and boom... account deleted, update applied so that doesn't happen anymore.

Manufactures of the games will allow probably allow mods if they want too. It's really up to them.

I noticed you listed Crysis Warhead on there? I dont think Crysis Warhead is one of the games? Its Crysis Wars, a seperate online game that comes packaged with crysis warhead.

The only restriction on the mods would be the ones loaded in the onlive servers. If the publisher approves of the mod, there isn't any reason it can't be made available on the servers.

Crysis Wars is the multiplayer feature in Crysis Warhead. OnLive only gets Crysis Wars for now I think. Alfrayer is right.

yea, in every video I have seen, it has been pronounced "crysis wars" and yet everywhere that I see it actually written down, including the games list on their offical site, it says crysis warhead, so I am not sure who is right.

By the way, it isn't listed on their site but it is on multiple videos from gdc, they are partnered with rockstar, and i read from a few sources of people playing the internal beta right now, that gta iv is available and working on the service, which seems completely probable to me, considering gta iv is a big game for rockstar that does run on pc.

GTA 4 shows some major support if its true.
Rockstar aren't the direct support, they are a subsidary of Take Two who are supporting OnLive, so its feasable.

Outlawed Toker
03-30-2009, 06:54 PM
Yea, I mean in the press conference where they showed the supporting developers on the screen, the rockstar logo is in one of the boxes, and like I said, there are already reports of people supposedly playing it on onlive.

I really hope gta 4 works out for it, because the recording feature that onlive will have seems like it would be a perfect match for gta 4.

These games are a good start,:) bring some old games that are still popular and then add new games that are popular that is the way to go and that is what will put Onlive on top for sure. These games are great and when Onlive finally kicks off more companies will be sure to join then again i could be wrong.

Aph0ticShield, where did you see this? I'm very curious. Personally I enjoyed that game, but what it means is RTS games will definitely be on the service. Dawn of War 2 would be amazing. Even better... Starcraft 2.

I hope Blizzard does put some games on the service. Considering Activision is partnered with them, and it is anticipated that Activision will be joining with OnLive, it is possible I'd imagine. :)

I don't remember, dude. It was in one of the videos, a newer one. Look at the date of my post, then go to the video section, and look for a video on or before that date. I am sure that you will find it.

As for Activision, no, they haven't anounnced any partnership with OnLive. However, it is assumed they will if OnLive is successful, unless Gaikai is holding ActiVision for ransom.

EDIT: Found it. https://www.technologyreview.com/emtech/videos/video.aspx?SkipLog=T

Company of Heroes: Opposing Forces or Fronts - 100% certain.

This would mainly be for console players due to fact that they cannot access high end PC games and for MAC and people who own laptops.

Nysil
12-19-2009, 05:29 PM
I highly doubt you could buy Crysis Wars for the xbox 360. Considering it's PC only, and requires a PC far beyond the specs of a 360...

In any case, I agree with Tyro, it's for gamers that don't have the money to shell out for a $3,000 gaming computer that will be out dated within 6 months. AKA it's for pretty much everyone.

That said, I am thoroughly looking forward to buying a netbook, taking it to the LAN near my college campus and playing Crysis Wars with it, all the while saying I stole a top secret Military field computer xD

Why wouldn't anyone put their game on OnLive? Its free to put it on there and only gives you money, y not port a multi-console game to OnLive regardless of how popular it is?

Tyrokiller

Takes time to get the game working with the onlive system, companies may not see those (2 weeks?) worthwhile until the platform itself has proven to work in the industry.

Well unless the game was originally developed for a console, it shouldn't take that much time to get the game working. Steve said onlive can support games that were designed for PCs right out of the box.

Yeah, I bet that porting from the Xbox 360 games takes 2 weeks. However, there are is a little bit of code that must be changed in the PC versions. First, they must make the settings/resolution static and managed by the bandwidth of the user. Slow loading screens must also be removed, since OnLive can probably load the game nearly instantaneously.

This is the list of games shown in a video on PC Perspective's site reviewing onlive:

Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood Demo
Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts Demo
Crysis Wars
Crysis Warhead
Defense Grid: The Awakening Demo
Frontlines: Fuel of War
Mass Effect
The Maw Demo
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.
Trine Demo
Unreal Tournament III: Titan Pack
World of Goo Demo

However it didn't show mirror's edge, lego batman and others.

Looks like Onlive has updated their games list. The following games are now on Onlive's website under "Featured Games".

Mass Effect 2
Assassins Creed 2
Borderlands
Metro 2033
Dragon Age Origins
Prince of Persia

However, I can't seem to find the complete game list on their site.

Can't wait to try out Unreal 3 and Metro. My system can barely run the engine they're on. This service is gonna be sweet especially for renting to try out single player games. Bring SWTOR and other mmos to the service and you can finally have an even playing field for these massive games. Imagine it: 100+ man raids with no frame drops equals epic battles just a few clicks away.
