View Full Version : Will A Larger Company Acquire OnLive?

I wonder if this company is launching with the purpose of future profits, or a future acquisition. I could think of a number of companies who would probably scoop Onlive up in a heartbeat if the business model looks sound and fruitful. How about Google, Microsoft, Apple, Electronic Arts to start? I would kill o see Google acquire them if the system will work like I think it will. Google could probably do so much with this idea, and make it very cheap with all their server and ad power.

For some reason I think Google would just try and form their own company. It is very possible they will be bought out if successful though. And I don't see how they won't be successful. It's a brilliant idea.

If OnLive was to sell, I'm sure Perlman would sell it to Microsoft for many reasons. (WebTV anyone?)

I doubt he would sell something with this much potential growth
OnLive has huge potential for sure. I don't think they have any plans to sell. However if they do, I would hope that Google would be willing to make an offer. Google makes the most sense from my point of view. With Google Plus, and more social features coming to the service, there is really one thing missing. Social games. OnLive would be able to solve that problem. With all this said, I don't really see it happening.

Dude why would he sell a gold mine like Onlive to anyone... Onlive is growing pretty damn fast imo... To many diamonds in this service for Steve te give up the company... I mean he has gotten deals with so many companies and deals.... as well as a wireless concept... A new wave is coming and he's got the surf boards lol

Yes, but can we trust Google with our personal information and privacy if/when they buy out OnLive?

I'm partial to the belief that OnLive is lacking many AAA titles because it's not a big name and other companies don't want to invest in something so new and uncertain yet. If OnLive were to be bought, especially by an already reputable and established organization, then maybe developers would be more inclined to bring over their games. Of course, this is pure conjecture and I'm speaking out of my ass. Like many have said before me, OnLive does have a lot of potential and in the long run, it'll offer its users all the games promised and then some. But because it's not backed by someone large and in charge, those golden days might not be here for a while.

I would be SO disappointed if OnLive sold to anybody. Anybody that bought it would probably just raise prices and try to milk as much money out of us as they can. I like it just the way it is.

Onlive is not going to be sold to anyone.
it turns out the CEO is very interested in trying so many things with this service that he will likely own it until they day he is too old to try new things.
So get it out of your heads guys. You can tell by the interviews that the CEO of onlive isn't swayed by money. He is already filthy rich. He is doing this for the fun. and that can't be bought.

You can never say never. If someone made a ridiculous offer, Onlive would be sold. This is America where everything has a price.

Im not opposed to a buyout as long as the service is kept intact.

What if Valve bought it...?
Ya know, that would be something if that big exclusive title that OnLive is going to have is Half Life 3. That just kinda sparked a "Hhhhmmmmmm" in my head. After all, it did originate as a PC-only game.
I know, way off topic here. Sorry.

I don't think Onlive needs to be bought because once Onlive takes off, everybody is going to copy the service and bring out their own version.
If Onlive could do get this far on their own, other companies with money in the bank will just take the existing or modified tech and just bring out their own.

Whats up with People wanting Onlive to be bought?, what would Onlive gain from being bought?.
Not only that, What is the Point of Google buying Onlive?. Onlive is already coming to Android Devices and such, There would be no point.
Onlive is and Should/Would always be an Independant Company, free from the Rules and Restrictions a Buyout would bring.

Right now Onlive seems to be a customer friendly service.
I fear if they are bought, whoever does the buying is not going to be buying in with friendly intentions. They would do everything to make back their investment and start raping the customers with a monthly fee and all sorts of restrictions.
Things such as five dollar Fridays would be tossed out the window.
They say patents are killing innovation because they are doing more than priming the pump they are being used to stifle actual innovation. A buyout here would be the same thing. It would be like thinking that stealing Einstein's identity would make one into Einstein. The bigger issue would be a repeat of the Edison vs Tesla contest. The ones that want cabled power and all of that are already lining up on the other side.
