View Full Version : How can we improve?

Ed

Hello OnLiveFans.com members. From time to time, we like to ask you guys and gals for suggestions on how we could improve this website. What would make you want to use our site even more than you already do? What features could be added to make your experience here even better?

If you don't already know, there are several parts to our site
- The Forum - http://onlivefans.com
- The News Site - http://onlivefans.com/news/
- The Review Site (Games and Hardware) - http://onlivefans.com/reviews/
- The Podcasts (found on the forum)

What could we do to make any of these sections better? Please let your voice be heard!

Ed

Care to elaborate a bit? When you say news do you mean community news or Onlive news? Weekly videos of what? Let us know so we can work in this for you..not many communities reach out to our users like we do and we appreciate everyone's input, opinions and ideas.

I think the site is great! Something I would like to see more of are hardware reviews. Different keyboards, mice, controllers, tablets, Bluetooth headsets, really anything that plays nice with OnLive MC or the tablet, pc/Mac client. Brash (one of the forum members) recently brought up the razer hydra and said it was good, so I bought it. I'm glad he did because I probably wouldn't have gotten it. (Thanks Brash!)

The only gripe I have is on the new site. For some reason, I can't scroll down when I use my phone. The rest of the site works fine though.

It's no problem. Maybe short videos on how to set up the micro console straight out-of-the-box. They can be shown the different ways that you can connect the micro console and the best options to do so, such as a powerline adapter, wireless bridge, and ethernet. You know, just basic how-to videos and basic information videos. You can go into details and explain how the micro console will give you a different quality than the PC or tablet. You can also add a graphic overlay in the videos to show a spreadsheet of which platform gives better performance and will use more network bandwidth. It would be helpful to have technical videos showing what you could possibly do when you experience different error codes. Obviously advice can only be given on the issues that have solutions for them.

As far as the news videos, you can break it down into four different sections throughout the duration of no more than 10 min. Basically quick summaries of each category. Whatever you may decide to make the categories.

Basic example
1. OnLive News ( announcements, headline topics)
2. This week's new games (quick rundown review)
3. This week's frustrations (top rated of the hated)
4. OnLive Queue (Rumors, Coming soon, waiting list)

Make them short, simple, informative and to the point.

That's just a basic rundown.
PS I like the new signature, looks like The Dark Knight Rises.

Oh I just got an idea!!! Game Club!!! It'll be like a book club but for games. Every Friday we can vote on a game to play that week (I'm thinking the games with single player stories). Then the following Friday we can have a discussion thread going. Also, the idea would be to replay the game for the discussion, no posts of how you played the game last year. Fresh experiences only. We could opt in to get on the game club list. Only people on the list can vote on the game to play for the week and the people on the list would get the week's game choice emailed to them. I think the thread should only be accessible to those on the list or people not on the list could view the thread but not post so that we can minimize post not pertaining to the game being discussed.... Or something like that. What do you guys think?

Cool idea, perhaps could link it to the review section, we review a game, post the review up on a Friday then encourage you all to do what you suggest.

I mostly pop here for the awesome OLF podcast, with 2 shows on the go it would be nice if they were posted on the site as blog entries instead of forum topics, onlivefans.com/podcasts

That's not a bad idea at all. Could have it both ways, easier for everyone involved.

We could have a whole separate podcast page with the dj's bio's pics, etc. That would be awesome!

lol Dafreak is right all your mods are active OnLive fans and were regular forum posters before becoming mods....I wouldn't have become a mod if it meant I had to "stay in the background!"

And Dafreak, love your thought about the page for the podcast hosts.

I can kind of see where coldweather is coming from, there are at the time of posting this more posts by staff in this thread than there are posts by members.

This is due to a few factors though:

1: There are a lot of "staff", 4 Admins, 9 Super Moderators and 11 Moderators. The thing to remember though is not all of these are actually what they appear, due to the multiple aspects to the site (Podcasts, OLN, News etc) several of this armada of staff only have "power" over aspects of the site.

2: The moderating staff aren't paid/brought in. They all exist here as moderators because they were/are useful members of the forum who asked/were offered responsibility, it would be totally unreasonable to expect active community members to stop being so purely because they can now close threads.

3: Time zone and thread clustering, it seems like we're perhaps everywhere in every thread as in reality there aren't all that many diverse threads and most of the staff are in the same timezone so tend to be around. Besides many times if we didn't respond no one else does (Tech subforum for example, threads are often ignored by people).

4: We don't hide and have discussions like this one elsewhere, so naturally a lot of us will be active in it.

Unlike many sites you need to realise the mods aren't here primarily to "police behaviour" they are, as mentioned earlier, active and useful members who now have extra responsibility.

2 Things

1: I like the Podcast page idea. Let's make that happen.

2: It would be tough for me to have been in the background for 3 1/2 years. I love interacting with the members much more than having the title I currently hold. It is better to interact rather than just sit on top of this mountain and do nothing.

Poor Pinesal... :/

I watched and enjoyed your weekly vids, dude!

I'd love to release a weekly video that was no more than 5 minutes long, showcasing some behind the scenes happenings from within the OnLive camp. Basically a "where the magic happens" type thing, spotlighting different features that are coming soon, things being worked on, talking to the guys that get us these games, etc. However, that would obviously require me to be an employee, which I am not. :/

I like the podcast page idea.. give us a written thoughts before or after the podcast, pics and what not.

Maybe a reviews podcast where they can explain in greater detail what they really liked in their review, games problems and issues which could be discussed with other reviewers? Maybe this could be a monthly or 2 weekly thing.

I actually love the mod, admin, staff saturation on the forum. The forum, thanks to them is clean and managed.. and usually the mods/admins have the biggest experience with onlive so they have a valid opinion to express.

I dont know if this is a issue but the sub forums are very hidden and people dont notice them ( i dont) so they get left out.. maybe put them more in the spotlight.

Also would like to see the News Site get the same banner as the Forum and Reviews... ^^

Can we change the text of the "What's New?" button at the top of the page to "Latest Posts", "Recent Discussions", "Latest Discussions", or something to that effect?

I remember before I started clicking it, I assumed it was a news page. Only after I clicked it did I realize that it was the most recent posts across all of the forums on this site. It seems a lot of people are missing out on that functionality and only clicking the major forum links. I think this will help with reposts and duplicate thread topics.

Makes no sense.

You sound sarcastic. But for starters, it's not even symmetrical.

But that's not the point, I couldn't care less about what background you guys choose to have, unless it clashed with something else. Like the white theme.

(Surely not the reason, but since that's about the only new change I've seen since the disappearance of the white theme, that's the one that have to take the blame).

And personally, this default colored black and orange theme just screems immature to me. It works as a company style guide, but making it the only color scheme on a forum, that is suppose to be anxious about their readability, is blunt.

(Surely not the reason, but since that's about the only new change I've seen since the disappearance of the white theme, that's the one that have to take the blame).

You're both the only person to complain about the removal of the white skin and the readability of this one.

The white one went because it was horrifically broken and didn't match anything else (reviews, news once that gets sorted), Im not sure how it screams immature but if thats your belief then so be it.

Theres actually a little more to it then just "making some CSS" and the more skins there are the more times I have to repeat each little change that is made to the forums. We might end up with more skins in the future and it might not, the amount of people who request it with valid reasons play a part in this, to date you've mentioned it in two threads and no one else seems to have mentioned it at all.

If its of massive importance drop me a PM and I can forcibly set you to the white skin, but if it breaks it breaks.

Also, I think we need to get a lot of our news on the site onto our YouTube channel. :D

I'm probably stating the obvious, but I've got a suggestion.

Has anyone emailed Onlive directly, asking for an affiliation link or something on their website,

really pushing on the fact that there's not much to push on the whole onlive community and OLF is a great way for Onlive gamers to make friends to play online etc,.

If it has been done, appologies,

If it's not, Here's a little story.

Many eons ago (well about 5 years) back in the days when I was pretty hardcore, on Xbox & ps3 (created clans, played MLG etc, semi-pro (on the 360) (ooh the memories) and was pretty well known on Xi (PS3) to the point where I had my personal blog advertised by the Xi Developers (Ndreams), and still have there CEO on my facebook today.
because of my youtube videos, and dedication to XI I "Got in" with Musterbuster, the Playstation community manager for the UK, and was offered a deal to produce Home videos and information which would have been advertised by playstation (Kind of like free advertisement for them for PS Home, but a little project for me)
however, I never went ahead with it, mostly due to PS3 struggling online, and me jumping ship back to Xbox.

anyhows, the moral of the story is, no matter how small or large a project is, if presented correctly (or in English, if we make it seem like theyre getting alot out of it) the big guns whether they be, xbox, ps3 or Onlive, are just as happy to help us if we help them,.
and with Onlive not really featuring much of a community portal, It might be worth (if you havnt already) pursuing Onlive to see if we can be there officially unnoficial forum of sorts.
