View Full Version : NEW: Post Rating Enabled
I just installed a post rating systems, so that you can give a thumbs up or thumbs down for individual posts. This also influences posters reputation levels (in a positive way only). Let me know what you think.
I could also make it so that it allows you to rate posts on a scale from 1-10 rather than just thumbs up or down.
What do you think?

Awesome dude! =)
I prefer a rating thing just so i can be more specific but the thumbs up/down is just fine!
For some reason when I enabled the 1-10 scale thing, it said "rate this thread". I'm sure I can change that to "rate this post". What does everyone else think?

Will it work from tapatalk?
The first post of this thread has a weird rating of 12 out of 3. This is an error I made, and it shouldn't happen any more on other posts.

Plus and minus works for me. Would make surfing through a 14 page thread a whole lot quicker.
I can honestly say that having a 10-point grading system would be hilariously too specific. This post gets a 6/10. WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?
Seems a bit wordy at the moment, though. "2 out of 2 members found this post helpful. Did you find this post helpful?" Any way you can just put the number of pluses next to the plus button and the number of minuses next to the minus button?
14 + | 3 -
That way I don't have to "read" in order to take in the rating system, which makes it nicely useful but not too intrusive to the posts.

I don't really care about ratings and shit. But I do have to say it feels refreshing that you can "minus" a comment. I always hated these Facebook likes that only can go up and with no way to dislike.

I concur with Ariskany here, would much prefer that myself. Also a shame about the system buggering up on your first post Admin!

Very nice! Though I agree with Ariskany and Tyro here, the +14|-3 without the "1 out of 1 members found this post helpful. " would be much cleaner looking.
I'm not really sure how to do this. The phrase used is {1} out or {2} thus I don't know how I would change it so that it would show +1 | -1

Is there any way to sort by helpfulness?

Plus and minus is great. I won't think enough to discern what is a 6 quality post and what's a 7.
Great addition to the forum.

You know, there is supposed to be, but it doesn't seem to want to work with our version and template.

I think the current implementation is painful. There's no need to have "Did you find this post helpful?" on every post. +/- speak for themselves. And at the very least, certainly every post does not need to have that explanation.
I think the best implementation of a +/- system on a forum is on MacRumors (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1231340). It's nonintrusive, you can easily +/- posts, and you can see the overall rating of a post. All at a quick glance.
Otherwise, great addition to the forum.

I predict lots of flamewars and butthurt over people getting downrated.
I've made a few minor adjustments to the wording. Let me know what you think.

There's too much white space in between where a post begins and where the words of a post actually begin. IMO.

I only see one line of white space, or black space. You probably turn off signatures like I do, huh? :D
I didn't even notice the feature until now. I just sought out this thread to say that I like it. I had been hoping something like this would be added eventually. It might encourage some people to put more thought into their posts if they don't want to see "0 out of 30" up there. I'm going to take a few people off ignore and see how it goes.
