Has anyone heard that Sony seems to be trying to get into the Video Game Cloud market as well. I wonder if they will have an announcement soon about a future Video Game cloud system in the works. Should be interesting.... Stay tuned....

well as stated by onlive, a lot of the stuff that makes their system work is patented till 2022, so I am currious to how competitors will get around this. They will literaly have to start off from scratch, and that took onlive 7 years.
I guess companies like sony and microsoft will have a huge budget for it and lots of experienced people to work on it, but still, It will be a while to finish something like that when starting from nothing.

Yeah I saw the PS cloud but there literally is no further information regard this. For all anyone knows it could be a controller that is as fluffy as a pillow or it could be the name of their next console that has nothing to do with cloud computing. Who knows. I also don't see otoy or gaikai competing with OnLive without getting sued up the butt for patent infringment.

you have to keep in mind too that just because a company purchases a trademark, that doesn't mean they are going to do anything with it. They could potentially just be preventing other companies from using the name to prevent consumers from confusing that name with their own brand too.

You have a point there

Onlive has the patents on the technology, so I have no idea how they would be able to do something exactly the same. For all anyone knows, they could just be grasping at straws to combat the Onlive anouncement.

If you look at patents as a whole, people are constantly coming out with things that serve the same purpose at some point. They just change it a little and boom, it's set.
Examples:
Rock Band (EA), Guitar Hero (ACT), Guitar Freaks(KoJ/A) When it comes to instruments.
KOJ/A Vs Roxor when it came to Dance Dance Revolution Vs In The Groove
Wii and PS3 When it comes to the Motion Control.
The list goes on. Eventually companies either get their product out or it disappears and lives on only in a name. Honestly, Sony doesn't need to worry about another system until they can fully support their current one and make a profit. It could very well be the "PS4". Till then it is a vapor concept.
Onlive is miles ahead of any other company at this point. They will have the fanbase even when competitors finally get to this point.

Thank you for touching on this point. Potential competitors are going to be way behind OnLive if they've only begun the funding of their R&D into this technology.

But won't Sony eventually catch up? And if they do, won't there be some people who will be interested?
