I've got a very fast 8-core PC, fiber internet connection, and a lot of games on Steam already. How technically possible would it be that I could use some software on my PC that works like OnLive's server-end software? It would be great to be able to use my MacBook as a remote desktop to my PC at home.
I have tried many VNC iterations, but I can't find any that would do h.264 compressed video and audio. Apple's Remote Desktop server on Mac OS X Server does do this quite well, and it's handy for doing thin client-like computing, but it's only on Mac OS X. If I want to play my Steam games, the server would need to be Windows based.
OnLive's tech could even be licensed to Valve and then Valve could stream my games I already own to me.
I realize this would undermine the purpose of OnLive as a service. If it's priced right, I'll probably end up getting it anyway as it would be great to be able to game on my underpowered MacBook while I'm on the road. The possibilities seem endless with OnLive. What do you think?
