View Full Version : OnLiveFans.com Suggestions - Post what you want on our site
Hey guys, since OnLive seems to be growing quite rapidly, I thought I'd ask you guys what you think OnLiveFans.com could do to improve our site. Do you have any suggestions for our News section, or our forum? Do you think we should do anything to help gamers find multiplayer partners? What would you add to our site if you had the option?
Let's here any ideas you have. If they are good, we will implement them :)

Really I'd like to see the news section have only games listed that are confirmed to be coming to OnLive for a fact, not presuming that it probably would because it's prequel did or a similar game from that studio did. The current list makes it difficult to find the real news we know for a fact is OnLive related.

Onlive specific game reviews
And imo less news based on speculation.
But all on all love the site.

We only post about confirmed games there I believe. Perhaps there were 1 or 2 articles in the past few months for games that have not been confirmed, but I am not aware of them

I think you should set up a profile on OnLive and make it the "OnLivefans" official profile. Then only accept friend requests from members of this site. That way whenever we want to find a member to play a games with, we can browse the friend's list to find members of this site.
I know that my fl is mixed with members of this site and many others who I don't even know. It would be nice to have a go to list of like minded peeps.

We do have the "OnLiveFans" playertag, but we have so many friends on it, it's hard to remove ones that aren't members of this site.

First off I want to say that the site is already fantastic. It's hard to come up with ideas because so much is here already. I do like the idea of coming up with a method so users can find each other for multiplayer games. I haven't played WoW in a long time but I really appreciated when they added the Looking for Group feature. Hopefully OnLive will add this themselves one day, but until then anything this site can do would be great.

i'd like to see a super-Poll vote for a list of games we want that anyone can add to the list. and you put a check besides each game you are interested in for multiple votes. Picking everything would be possible but discouraged as it wouldn't help the list priority.
Then as games gain votes they are bumped up in rank and the list is auto-organized.
if a game does not exist on the list then there could a submission method.
As games come out they would be deleted from list.
This might be hard to do.
Another thing I propose is "Like" system or "Up-Voting" a post when someone makes a topic asking for people to list games they want. More up-Votes" gets noticed by onlive

A daily threads link? It only shows when you are anonymous. The only other thing I could think of is a heavily moderated Questions to OnLive section. Someone keeps track of the questions and answers. Or maybe a section with a Q&A chat session format where maybe bi-weekly or monthly we can get answers and tidbits from. I personally live the podcasts, Pinesal's week in review and these almost-quarterly interviews with the mastermind himself.
Hmm... Maybe linking our OLF fans profile with our OnLive ones. Not sure if OnLive has an API for that though...

...because it's prequel did...
*Previous game. Prequel means a sequel that takes place before the original.
And I would love to see more interaction with the actual Onlive company, but I know that is not an easy task. Onlive specific game reviews would be great (I would be happy to contribute) and a video section would be really cool. When Upload to Youtube comes that would be nice for Bragclips, tricks, Video Reviews, Bragclip of the Week, Strategies, and such. Just some thoughts.
Edit: Not sure if this is what Ultralord was talking about, but a stickied post where we can track questions we would ask Steve Perlman for when there is a chance for another interview.

Brash one of our members did make a survey that allows you to add games you want.

I also like the idea of "liking" or rating individual posts.

5 or less subforums. It's hard to track where the posts and traffic are. A classic example is that every single time a genuine piece of news breaks, it's posted in the main discussion subforum as well as the News subforum. One of these is inevitably closed with the "already being discussed in another thread" explanation.
I just counted: there are about 145 separate subforums on OnLive Fans. It may be one or two off; I may have lost count.
Look at what NeoGAF, the most trafficked gaming site on the Internet does: 3 subforums - one for gaming news and discussion, one for off-topic, and another (much more seldomly used) "community" subforum that's mostly for games that have been out for months.
Do the same here. An example would be the following:
1. OnLive News & Discussion
2. Existing OnLive Games (on service for 3 months or more)
3. Other Games Discussion
4. Off-Topic
1. News & Discussion will be the main subforum. All real news, speculation, upcoming games, and technical help will be threads in this subforum
2. Consolidate the 126 (and counting) separate game subforums into this single one. This will be for games that have been on the service for a certain time already. Homefront discussion would go in here, but Deus Ex: HR talk would not, at least until perhaps October.
3. Talk about non-OnLive gaming in this subforum. Separate than OnLive, but focused on gaming itself enough to not considered to be off-topic
4. All else - political threads, talk about hurricanes, girls, sports, politics, etc.

Sorry I meant news here in the forum:

I must say I do like these ideas. The mod and admin team will discuss this further. I too am not liking the large about of games folders
Anyone else have suggestions?

There is strange thing that I don't know either I am an early member or there isn't that feature? Anyway, I notice there is reputation bar but there isn't the "add reputation" button, if there isn't that button, why we need reputation bar....

I actually have two more:
1. Continuing the theme of less is more, remove some of the stickie threads. Right now, on the main Discussion subforum, there are 7 sticky threads. Pick one, maybe two, to be stickied. Just because a thread seems like a decent and continuing idea doesn't mean it deserves perpetual top billing. The "Indie Games Contact Info" doesn't need to be stickied. "Search Function - Please Use It" should simply be a prominent part of the TOS that one agrees to when signing up for an account. $5 Fridays thread can simply be bumped on Fridays, etc.
Basically, have all the admins and mods go through each sticky thread to which really deserves this status (and I will note that I personally think that too many stickies make the board look cluttered). I'm willing to participate in this talk.
2. Either remove the chatbox, or move it to the bottom. On a message board forum, isn't it nearly duplicative functionality? I minimized the chatbox on my login, but before I did that, I often caught myself scrolling in the chatbox when I meant to scroll down on the forum itself.

The ability to browse the population and demographic of games, and the relevant community in each game. This would allow users to add, invite, and find friends based on their game interests. One of the main things hindering this service is centralization of community. A way to browse player lists, prominent members within the community, and an event creation format for the forum. Perhaps we should enable the creation of tournament brackets as well?

I'd like a profile option that allows us to make a list of the games we own. That way people won't have to fill their signatures with massive walls of text. :o
EDIT: Also, let us see the games we have in common with another user when we view their profile.

You could place this info in the user sidebar with the shared games highlighted (if the user wants to share this data). Much cleaner : )
This would also allow for easy aggregation too. You could parse member-wide ownership to list the most popular OnLive games. Hell, you could allow people to be able to rate/like games from within their profile too, for even more crowd-sourcing fun.

That's exactly where I was going with integrating OnLive data with the site. Could be a really great feature to have your full profile, games, achievements, etc.. web-accessible. Was great having it with Everquest and WoW for bragging rights!
