MAG Beta

I have been invited to the MAG beta, and I just got a chance to play it today. Since I am under NDA, I cannot tell you much. What I can tell you is that it has great controls, a great character progression system, and some pretty high-end graphics. It is actually similar to Call of Duty 4 in controls and graphics quality, which is great. It is easily one of the best PS3 exclusives and this isn't even the full version! I even went in expecting a lackluster game, so this isn't my feeble attempt to find the good parts of a bad game because I wanted for the hype to be true, this is true admiration for a game that actually shocked me with how good it is.

Yeah I'm surprised on how good it was also, I played it at PAX and it was by far my favorite one I got to play! your right the controls are pretty much the same as CODWAW with the L1 being aim and R1 being fire, great game, did u get the beta from twitter when they had it or by e-mail?

Wow, to be honest, the two things i was worrying about what controls and graphics. The controls looks really clunky but if you're saying they're close to COD4 standard I really am amazed. The graphics on the other hand, they made me really crisp but the art style has never really appealed to me. I still really want to get this =D

It'd be a great investment. For $300 you get a next-gen gaming system with wifi and a Blu-Ray player. You also have some killer titles like:

Personally I like the graphics, and the character progression system is amazing! There are so many different possibilities that it is highly unlikely that you will play against/with someone who has the same "perks" as you.

After playing at E3, I am not entirely impressed. The PAX version is the same as E3. I hope it is better than what I played when it comes out. It felt clunky and slow. This coming from a guy who played Killzone 2 religiously BEFORE the crappy patch. Whiny COD players. Graphics were ok but needed polish.

However, I do understand why the graphics aren't top notch. when you have 256 people in a game, if you have too many people in the screen at once during a fire fight, the framerate will bog. As for it being close to COD graphics.... no. Not in the least.

This will be a fun game, but its not the powerhouse it is being made out to be.

Ok first off the graphics are pretty incredible idk what your saying because cod doesnt have great graphics to begin with. Second MAG is a power house if this game succeeds it WILL change future gaming entirely.

I completely agree. The graphics are most definitely on par with COD4 and the game is not slow at all. Also, what did they do to Killzone 2 that messed it up? I haven't played it in a while.

Oh, that sounds like a terrible addition to the game.

I disagree and here's my thoughts on the beta considering it's over while they prep for public Qore beta.

1) Controls aren't horrible but their not the best, combined with the poor to almost non existent physics the game has it feels "Slugish" at best.

2) Graphics no where near high end, the textures are by far the worst I've seen in a game considered to be "NextGen" and the game has frame issues very much like playing a high end PC game on a low end PC. Not all the time but when more than 3-4 players shooting and a few grenades exploding on your screen you notice it, seen plently of complaints on the beta forums.

3) Gameplay is linear and offers very little new or exciting features that developers seem to brag about in interviews, squad and squad leadership is a joke, well in the beta it is with so many noobs but still it's nothing special you get big colorful icons marking points of interest and all you do is open up a map, point and click and be on your way...less than a handful of squad members will pay attention and do what happens in most FPS games which is run and gun while completely ignoring some of the more important jobs.


Bottom line is I think people will be disappointed a plenty with this game seeing as it's an exclusive title brought up to be one of the best titles coming to the PS3 and to bring the most fun and action ever to be had and from my experience it was boring and it felt like every other FPS I've ever played in fact it wasn't refreshing in the slightest bit and I couldn't sit and play more than 1 round 2 tops with much enjoyment.

Looking back at some of the latest exclusive titles that were shot down by the very people who brought them up (ps3 owners...:eek:) for the stupidest reasons and issues tearing the games reputation to shreds I have the utmost confidence in the same thing happening to MAG but atleast this game will be more deserving. The only thing this game will have going for it is 256 players but that in itself doesn't do much for the gameplay and it never feels as if there is this many people, yes I'm saying this AFTER playing during the PAX weekend with 256 enabled.

This my opinion after participating in the beta, play the game and decide for yourself.

I mean, other than the fact that 200+ people can play in a room online (to be honest don't really care to much about that, its just gonna make it a hassle to actually try to play with friends.)

1) I disagree completely, the game does not feel "sluggish" at all. The controls are great and the gameplay flows almost perfectly.

2) I think the graphics are much better than many games that have come out claiming to be Next-Gen titles. I have also NEVER experienced frame rate problems, even with 7+ people all shooting and throwing grenades at the same time.

3) I completely agree with you on this point. They need to make it so that people in your squad actually do the objectives.

If they are smart they will take a que from KZ2 and have proximity chat as well as a constant line with people in your squad.
